Beginning your journey in Kisumu, you will have the opportunity to explore Ndere Island, Kakamega Forest, and Ruma National Park, all of which offer an array of exciting activities such as game drives, bird watching, cultural visits, and more. Itinerary Details:

Day 1: Nairobi – Kisumu

Leave Nairobi early in the morning and stop at Kericho for lunch. After a walk through the tea plantations, continue to Kisumu for dinner and overnight, passing via Lwanda Magere (a Luo warrior who was killed and turned into a stone).

Day 2: Ndere Island – Kakamega Forest

After breakfast, drive to Kaloka Beach and board a boat to Ndere Island National Park, where you can see some wildlife and birds. Return to Kaloka beach by rowing the boat. Drive back to Kisumu for lunch by Kit- Mikaye (this rock is where Mikaye, the Luo tribe’s mother, sought refuge after a lengthy trek down the Nile). You will also have a chance to visit Kisumu Impala Sanctuary as well as Kisumu Museum before departing for Kakamega Game Reserve arriving late evening in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Kakamega Forest – Kisumu

After breakfast, spend the day exploring the Kakamega forest in search of debraza, colobus, blue and red tailed monkeys, and olive baboons, among other birds, butterflies, and animals. There are about 30 different snake species here, including the dangerous gaboon viper, Jamesons mamba, and black mamba, among others. Great and ancient indigenous trees, some dating back hundreds of years. For dinner and the night, drive to Kisumu.

Days 4: Kisumu – Homa Bay

After breakfast, depart Kisumu and travel south across the Kano plains, passing past rice plantations to Odino Falls. After a brief stop, proceed to Kendu Bay for lunch. Continue to Lake Simbi Nyaima for bird watching, then to Kanjira and Kanam hot springs before arriving at Homa Bay for dinner and stay.

Days 5: Homa Bay – Rusinga – Mbita

Drive to Rusinga and take a tour of the island, stopping at historical sites such as Doctor Louise Leakey’s museum (where the remains of the earliest man were discovered) and the Tom Mboya Mausoleum, where this renowned nationalist and politician was buried. On a Nairobi street, he was assassinated. Return to Mbita for dinner and a restful night’s sleep.

Days 6: Mbita Island – Ruma National Park – Awendo

After breakfast, drive to Ruma National Park for a picnic lunch and a game drive, then drive out to Thim Lich Ohinga and onto Gogo Falls before arriving in Awendo for dinner and overnight.

Days 7: Awendo – Nairobi

Depart Awendo and return to Nairobi via the Great Rift Valley, passing through sugar farms and arriving in the afternoon. Drop off will be at either your hotel or the airport in time for your onward flight.
