3 Days Masai Mara Mid-Range Safari
3 Days from $ 745 / person sharing
The 3 Days Masai Mara Mid-Range Safari is ideal for travelers who want to maximize their experience in a short time. Unlike budget safaris, you will be accommodated in comfortable mid-range lodges or tented camps, where you can enjoy cozy beds, delicious meals, and warm hospitality after adventurous days in the bush. The safari program is private, giving you flexibility in your game drive timings, a huge advantage for those traveling with children or couples on a romantic escape.
You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the Maasai Mara during one of the world’s most dramatic wildlife spectacles—the Great Migration. Between July and October, millions of wildebeests and zebras cross from the Serengeti into the Maasai Mara, closely followed by predators, creating one of nature’s greatest shows. Even outside migration season, the Maasai Mara offers excellent game viewing year-round, with abundant populations of lions, elephants, giraffes, leopards, cheetahs, and many other species.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Masai Mara National Reserve (Approx. 5 Hours’ Drive)
Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or residence by your professional safari driver-guide. After a short briefing on the journey ahead, you will depart in a private safari vehicle, heading southwest toward the world-famous Maasai Mara.
As you leave the city behind, the landscape quickly changes. You’ll travel through the spectacular Great Rift Valley, the world’s largest valley, which stretches thousands of kilometers from Lebanon to Mozambique. Along the way, a stop is made at the Rift Valley viewpoint. Here, you can admire the breathtaking views, snap some photos, and stretch your legs before continuing the journey.
The drive itself is a scenic experience. You will pass small towns, farmlands, and rolling hills before eventually arriving at the gate of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Upon arrival at your lodge or tented camp, check in and enjoy a hearty lunch. After some time to relax, your first real taste of safari begins.
At around 4:00 PM, you’ll embark on an exciting afternoon game drive inside the reserve. This is your first opportunity to explore the sweeping savannah and encounter Africa’s most iconic animals. With a bit of luck, you may spot elephants, giraffes, lions, buffalo, and even cheetahs. The afternoon light creates perfect conditions for photography, and the wildlife is often more active at this time of day.
As the sun sets over the plains, return to your lodge or camp for dinner. Relax around the fire under the star-filled African sky, recount the day’s sightings with fellow travelers, and then retreat to your comfortable room for a restful night.
Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner
Activities: Afternoon Game Drive
Day 2: Full Day Game Viewing in the Maasai Mara
Wake up early on your second day to the sounds of the wilderness all around you. After a quick coffee or tea, you’ll set out on a thrilling early-morning game drive starting around 6:15 AM. This is one of the best times for wildlife viewing, as animals are most active in the cool hours of the morning. You may witness predators returning from a night of hunting or catch sight of elephants and giraffes grazing peacefully in the golden morning light.
Return to your lodge or camp for a full breakfast, followed by some time to relax. Depending on your preferences, you can spend the late morning at leisure, enjoying the facilities of your accommodation, or head out again for more wildlife encounters.
After lunch, another game drive awaits, beginning at around 3:30 PM. This late-afternoon drive offers a different perspective of the savannah, with chances to spot lions resting under acacia trees or hippos wallowing in rivers. By 6:30 PM, you’ll return to camp in time for dinner.
Alternatively, instead of two separate game drives, you may choose to embark on a full-day safari with a packed picnic lunch. This option allows you to spend the entire day exploring deeper into the Maasai Mara, maximizing your chances of spotting a wide variety of wildlife and covering more ground. It is also the best way to witness the Great Migration river crossings if you are visiting during migration season.
In the evening, unwind at your camp with a freshly prepared meal, listening to the distant calls of hyenas or the roar of lions in the distance—a true African safari experience.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Activities: Morning & Afternoon Game Drives / Full-Day Game Drive
Accommodation: Little Zebra Mara Camp (or similar mid-range lodge/camp)
Day 3: Masai Mara – Nairobi
On your final day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the lodge or camp. After check-out by 8:30 AM, you will begin the journey back to Nairobi. As per park regulations, visitors must exit the Maasai Mara by 10:00 AM, ensuring minimal disruption to the wildlife.
The return drive retraces your route through the Rift Valley, giving you one last chance to take in the beautiful Kenyan countryside. Expected arrival in Nairobi is around 2:30 PM, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or directly at the airport for your onward flight.
As your safari comes to an end, you will leave with memories of breathtaking landscapes, thrilling wildlife encounters, and the warm hospitality of Kenya that will stay with you for a lifetime.
