Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara by Air
Your safari begins with a warm welcome from our driver-guide, who will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel or directly from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). From there, you will be transferred to Wilson Airport, the domestic hub for safari flights. After a smooth check-in process and a short reporting time of about one hour, you’ll board your light aircraft for the flight into the Masai Mara. Depending on the airline, the aircraft typically accommodates between 15 to 40 passengers.
As you ascend over Nairobi, prepare for a spectacular journey. The flight takes approximately one hour, but it’s an unforgettable experience. You’ll enjoy sweeping aerial views of Kenya’s diverse landscapes: rolling farmlands, sprawling savannahs, winding rivers, and the dramatic escarpments of the Great Rift Valley. The bird’s-eye perspective gives you a true sense of the vastness and beauty of the country.
On arrival at the Mara airstrip, you will be warmly greeted by your lodge or camp driver-guide. Your transfer to the lodge is more than just a ride; it’s often your first mini game drive as you begin spotting animals en route. Depending on your arrival time, you may reach in time for a hearty lunch followed by some leisure hours to relax and soak in the atmosphere. Most lodges feature comfortable lounges, viewing decks, and sometimes even a swimming pool.
Later in the afternoon, usually around 3:30 pm, you’ll head out for your first official safari game drive. This is your introduction to the magic of the Masai Mara – a chance to see iconic African wildlife in their natural habitat. Lions resting under acacia trees, elephants moving in herds, giraffes gracefully stretching for leaves, and perhaps even elusive leopards can be spotted during this time. The Mara is also renowned for its sheer density of wildlife, meaning every drive is packed with sightings.
By evening, you will return to your camp or lodge in time for dinner. The evening atmosphere in the Mara is tranquil, often accompanied by the sounds of the wilderness, making it an unforgettable first night on safari.

Day 2: Full Day Exploring the Masai Mara
The second day of your safari begins with an early morning wake-up call. Early hours are the best time for game drives, as wildlife is most active before the sun becomes too hot. Depart around 6:15 am for a thrilling morning game drive across the reserve. This is your chance to witness predators on the hunt, herds grazing, and the spectacular savannah lit by the golden sunrise.
After a rewarding morning exploring, you’ll return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. The rest of the morning is free for you to relax. Some travelers prefer lounging at the camp, taking a swim, or simply enjoying the scenic surroundings. For those seeking more adventure, optional activities such as guided nature walks or visits to a Maasai village can be arranged (at an additional cost). A Maasai village visit offers unique cultural insights, from traditional dances to learning about their lifestyle and customs.
After a delicious lunch, the afternoon brings another opportunity for a game drive. The Masai Mara’s wildlife is constantly on the move, so each excursion is a fresh experience. You may encounter large herds of wildebeest and zebra, prides of lions lazing in the grass, or perhaps even a cheetah sprinting after its prey. Bird enthusiasts will also find the Mara rewarding, with over 450 recorded species.
As the sun sets, you’ll return to the lodge for dinner. Many lodges also offer evening entertainment such as traditional dances or storytelling, adding another layer to your safari experience.
