Shimba Hills National Reserve
One of East Africa’s greatest coastal forests
Home » Destinations » National Reserve »
Shimba Hills National Reserve, after Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, is one of East Africa’s greatest coastal forests, rich in flora and fauna, and home to Kenya’s highest number of African elephants. Sable antelope, elephant shrew, bushy tailed mongoose, and other small mammals such as fruit bats are also prevalent in the area. The woodland is rich in forest birdlife, while the grasslands are home to isolated species such as red-necked spurfowl, Croaking Cisticola, and Zanzibar Red Bishop. There are also four campsites here, as well as the gorgeous Sheldrick Falls and the deep Mwaluganje Forest.
