Sibiloi National Park
The cradle of humanity
Sibiloi National Park forms part of the shores of Lake Turkana in northern Kenya, a site where the dawn of humanity has been attested. It contains the famous Koobi Fora and Lothagam formations and has long been a source of interest in studies of paleontology and archeology. This has been the case with many such talented sites, bringing to light some of the major discoveries of the early human ancestors like Homo habilis and Homo erectus among other fossil records. Added to these are fossils of ancient mammals and reptiles that allow one to gaze upon life that flourished a few million years ago and further sealed the status of the park as a cradle of human evolution.
Besides its scientific interest, Sibiloi National Park is a haven for all lovers of nature and adventure. It offers excellent opportunities for thrilling safaris across its unique flora and fauna landscape. This also forms a base for wet to semi-arid habitats for species like Grevy’s zebras, Reticulated giraffes, and different kinds of predators, thus making the area ideal for photography and observation of wildlife. By that same virtue, equally pleasing will be the avian diversity to any birdwatcher, with Lake Turkana forming a very important stopover for migratory birds.
These features of the cultural dimensions are further enriched in the visit to Sibiloi, adding yet another degree of richness. It allows the visitor to plunge into their culture, craftsmanship, and way of living; hence, allowing links to be created between history and the present. UNESCO-classified World Heritage, Sibiloi National Park is more of a journey through time, nature, and culture than a destination per se, with unique experiences about the roots of humankind and the beauty of the natural world.
