Galana Conservancy

Situated along the northern banks of the Galana River, Galana Conservancy stretches over 60,000 acres of virgin wilderness, which is home to many of Africa’s most iconic and rarest wildlife species. This is an important conservancy located on the eastern border of Tsavo East National Park, serving as an unfenced buffer area linking the protected area of the national park with the expansive agricultural lands of Galana and Kulalu Ranches. These are ranches curated by the Agricultural Development Corporation-ADC balance between human development and the resilience of nature.

Since 2008, Galana River Conservancy has been a beacon of conservation in partnership with international NGOs, the ADC, and the local communities to protect this very special ecosystem, where there is a coexistence of wildlife and human activity with the least negative impact. The conservatory works of this conservancy have enabled the protection of vital habitats and the supply of species predominant in this area from elephants and big cats to the lesser-known flora and fauna.

Galana Conservancy is much more than just an ecological haven; it stands as a testimony to good cooperation and dedication. Since it’s unfenced, the movement of wild animals between Tsavo East and surrounding regions will be free-flowing and be instrumental in maintaining vital migration corridors and reducing human-wildlife conflict.
