Selenkay Conservancy
Unfenced private conservancy adjacent to Amboseli
Selenkay Conservancy is a private unfenced conservancy adjacent to the famous Amboseli National Park in Kenya. This is a 15,000-acre conservancy that was leased from the local Maasai community and owned by Porini Camps, to reduce human-wildlife conflict and enlarge the protection buffer zone around Amboseli. Through its operations, Selenkay works in very close cooperation with the local Maasai community, advances wildlife conservation, and supports sustainable benefits for the people to enable this rich cultural heritage to prosper alongside biodiversity.
The conservancy is characterized by a clear focus on the conservation of large herds of elephants in their natural habitat, which range freely in and outside the reserve and its buffer zone. The stunning backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro offers a dramatic setting for wildlife photography, especially on clear days when the snow-capped peaks are visible. Elephants are often seen in Selenkay out in the open savanna, grazing or playing, giving guests experiences that will be remembered forever near these grand creatures.
With only 18 guests at any one time, the Conservancy is exclusive and low impact, ensuring more personalized safaris. This secluded and ecologically sensitive location rarely gets visitors, offering an excellent opportunity to catch a glimpse of wild game and participate in sustainable tourism. Photographing elephants against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, the serenity across the landscape, or elsewhere on Selenkay Conservancy is magical and well-rewarding.
