Malka Mari National Reserve, with its undulating vistas of semi-arid bush and scrubby meadows punctuated by bits of riparian woods and palms along the Daua River, was gazetted in 1989 because of its allegedly high concentration of species. The area is a prospective Important Bird Area and a location for plant endemism (NBU, 1992). The park is 876 km2 in size and is located along the Daua River on the Kenya-Ethiopia border on the Mandera plateau in Mandera County in Kenya’s far north east. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, birds, aquatic species, vital ecosystems, and a water catchment that provides sanctuary for wildlife during the dry seasons, in addition to stunning landscape.
